What is Confession?
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Confession or Penance) is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. In this sacrament, we receive God's forgiveness for the sins we have committed after Baptism. Through confession, we are reconciled with God and with the Church community.

How to Go to Confession
Examination of Conscience
Reflect on your thoughts, words, and actions since your last confession. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize your sins.
Sincere Sorrow
Feel genuine sorrow for your sins because they offend God, and resolve to avoid sin in the future.
Confession
Confess your sins to the priest, being honest about what you have done. The priest is bound by the seal of confession and cannot reveal what you say.
Penance
Accept the penance given by the priest (usually prayers or good works) as a sign of your willingness to make amends.
Absolution
Receive God's forgiveness through the words of absolution spoken by the priest.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I go to Confession?
The Church requires Catholics to confess serious (mortal) sins at least once a year. However, frequent confession (monthly or even weekly) is highly recommended for spiritual growth.
Is Confession confidential?
Yes, absolutely. The "seal of confession" is inviolable. The priest cannot reveal anything said in confession under any circumstances.
What if I forgot to confess a sin?
If you unintentionally forgot a sin, it is forgiven along with the sins you confessed. Simply mention it the next time you go to confession.
