The Foundation of Faith
The history of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Igbogila – Ipaja dates back to the late 1920s, rooted in a profound story of faith, healing, and generosity.
The Beginning
Pa Akanbi Akiniyi, the patriarch of the Akiniyi Royal family, donated a parcel of land from his farmland in Igbogila – Ipaja to the Catholic mission. Originally a member of the United Native African Church, Pa Akiniyi was converted to the Catholic faith following the healing of his son, Sir James Fadipe Akiniyi, by the prayers of St. Anthony prayer Group in the late 1920s.
In gratitude for this miracle, Pa Akanbi Akiniyi promised to donate land from his extensive farmland to the Catholic mission. Though he did not demarcate the land before his death, his son, James Fadipe Akiniyi, faithfully actualized his father's promise.
The first mass of the church was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Koechan of the Catholic Church, Iteri Abeokuta, in Pa Akanbi Akiniyi's house at Ipaja. This sacred beginning established a foundation that would grow into the vibrant parish we know today.

Many other priests have contributed to St. Patrick's growth including Rev. Fr. Anthony Fadairo, Rev. Fr. Joseph Yemi Akinbotan, Very Rev. Monsegr. Christopher Boyo, Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Obi, and the late Rev. Fr. Peter Oke, along with countless associate priests who made up the pastoral teams.
