What is Baptism?
Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." - Matthew 28:19
The Effects of Baptism
- Forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins
- Birth into the new life by which we become children of God
- Incorporation into the Church, the Body of Christ
- Reception of the Holy Spirit
- Participation in the priesthood of Christ
- An indelible spiritual mark (character) that consecrates the person for Christian worship
Requirements for Baptism
For Infant Baptism:
- Parents must be registered members of the parish
- Both parents must attend baptismal preparation classes
- Child's birth certificate
- Godparents must be confirmed Catholics in good standing
- Letter of good standing for godparents from their parish
For Adult Baptism:
- Completion of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program
- Regular attendance at Mass and parish activities
- Understanding of Catholic faith and commitment to live according to its teachings
Baptism Schedule
Baptisms are typically celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month after the 9:30 AM Mass. Please contact the parish office at least one month in advance to schedule a baptism and register for preparation classes.
